Spektre are on a roll at the moment, and are back on their record label Respekt to drop another hard-hitting techno EP with explosive energy.
With back-to-back releases on Respekt, this is Spektre’s second release on their highly respected record label in the space of a month, and it’s another banger with two dark and driving techno tracks in their trademark style.
Based in the UK, Spektre is a duo consisting of Rich Wakley aka Filthy Rich and Paul Maddox who were both successful solo artists who came together through a shared love of techno. Over a decade later they have travelled the world as headline DJs and released music on esteemed record labels such as Filth on Acid, Kraftek, 1605 and Drumcode.
Their own record label, Respekt is one of techno’s most prestigious record labels with a roster that ranges from old-school legends like Marco Bailey to trailblazing fresh talent like Mha iri.
“Stop Me From Falling” is the EP’s title track, and it fuses Michele Adamson’s emotive vocals, fresh from collaborations with the likes of Infected Mushroom and Shpongle, with fizzing synths, brutal percussion and a menacing acid line to create an intense groove. It’s a distinctive track that finds the perfect balance of hands in the air elation and fist-pumping exploration.
“Nine Lives” steps things up a gear with its industrial kick drum and thrashing high-end percussion which are underpinned by a rumbling bassline that creates the meat of the groove. The spine-tingling melody line sweeps across the track while old-school vocals and a thickset lead synth add ominous tension to the track’s unfolding ferocity.
