Yiwen Song Shapes Global Creative Direction Through Photography, Film, and Cultural Storytelling

Here’s a cleaner version that reduces repetition of phrases like “creative direction,” “concept development,” “creative strategy,” “visual direction,” “developed and executed,” and “visual identity,” while preserving the substance and professional tone.

Yiwen Song, professionally known as Yvonne Song, is a New York-based Creative Director whose multidisciplinary practice spans concept development, creative strategy, visual direction, photography, filmmaking, production, and cultural research. Working across music, fashion, editorial, and experiential culture, Song creates distinctive brand identities and immersive experiences for internationally recognized artists, brands, and creative communities.

Rather than approaching photography, film, production, and music as separate disciplines, Song brings them together through a unified creative process. Every project begins with research and strategic planning before evolving into visual direction, production oversight, photography, filmmaking, and experiential execution. This integrated methodology enables her to build cohesive creative ecosystems that connect artists with audiences across multiple platforms while remaining true to each project’s vision.

Industry collaborators increasingly turn to Song for her ability to combine strategy, production, visual storytelling, photography, and creative leadership into a cohesive vision. Rather than working within a single discipline, she oversees campaigns that maintain consistency across editorial, live events, digital media, and social platforms.

Among her most recognized collaborations is her work with Grammy-nominated recording artist Miguel, where Song contributed to the visual direction behind a series of high-profile campaigns, editorial features, live performances, and digital content. Her work included pre-album studio sessions, Miguel’s Washington Square Park pop-up performance, performances at Radio City Music Hall, an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside J-Hope for the release of “Sweet Dreams,” and performances during the Roots Picnic Festival in Philadelphia. Collectively, these projects established a unified visual presence throughout Miguel’s album rollout, editorial campaigns, live performances, and digital content.

Her work has also attracted artists seeking distinctive visual storytelling. Rap artist JT selected Song to oversee photography for her Pride performance and exclusive pop-up activations, while internationally acclaimed artist Amaarae engaged her for on-set photography and official visual coverage of the “Angles In Tibet” music video production, with her work featured through VEVO.

Beyond artist campaigns, Song has contributed to the long-term visual development of internationally recognized music projects. She created the photography for the Sparrow & Barbossa cover campaign, producing imagery that supported the duo’s international touring campaigns throughout 2024 and 2025 while appearing across artist press materials, festival promotions, Scorpios Mykonos, Electronic Groove, and other global music platforms. She also directed the artwork for electronic music producer Westend’s 2026 single, “The Ceiling,” helping define the release’s overall visual presentation.

Her international portfolio continues to expand through collaborations with globally recognized artists including Jackson Wang, GALI, and Santa. Song contributed to the visual execution of Jackson Wang’s “Pretty Please” production through photography and on-set creative support, while also collaborating with The Berrics on the documentary Skateboarding in China Amidst a Global Pandemic: Diplomatic Immunity, demonstrating her ability to craft visual narratives that resonate across cultures and creative industries.

Song’s leadership extends beyond commissioned projects. In Shanghai, she independently conceived, directed, and produced a 7-Eleven-inspired music and cultural activation that transformed an everyday retail environment into an immersive live experience. Managing every stage of the project—from initial concept and strategy to production and final execution—she demonstrated her ability to build original cultural experiences from the ground up. The activation generated more than 2,000 engagements on RED (Xiaohongshu), reflecting its strong reception within one of China’s leading lifestyle and social media communities.

Her commitment to storytelling also extends into independent filmmaking. Song’s documentary I Dance Because I Am Lost received recognition at the Lift-Off Film Festival, highlighting her continued exploration of identity, creativity, and human connection through documentary film.

Maintaining an active career as a DJ provides Song with firsthand insight into artist branding, audience engagement, and live experience design—perspectives that continue to shape her creative work. Her experience as a performer enables her to develop concepts that feel authentic to both artists and audiences. Her performances have taken her to New York, Paris, Shanghai, and the Philippines, including recurring appearances at Silencio Paris during Fashion Week throughout 2024 and 2025, the Lil Tecca “PLAN A” album release celebration, events surrounding Rolling Loud, Public Artspace’s New York Tech Week opening alongside Ian Asher, and venues including the Chocolate Factory and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge.

Further demonstrating her leadership within the international electronic music community, Song directed the visual documentation for Boiler Room Shanghai, overseeing event coverage for performances by Cocoonics, Cola Ren, DJ EBP, GOGA, Mau Mau, and Takaaki Itoh while helping shape the visual narrative surrounding one of electronic music’s most recognized global platforms.

This version varies the wording more naturally, avoids repeatedly using “developed and executed,” “creative direction,” “visual direction,” and “visual identity,” and reads more like an editorial feature while retaining the same factual content.

Expanding a Global Creative Vision

Song continues to develop original projects that explore emerging creative communities around the world. She is currently producing a documentary-style series centered on Gen Z creatives across New York, Paris, Shanghai, and the United Kingdom. Combining photography, film, music, fashion, and cultural research, the series explores how a new generation of artists, designers, musicians, photographers, and innovators are reshaping contemporary creative culture through collaboration and technology.

An early version of the project was screened through the New York University Tisch School of the Arts Collaborative Arts Thesis Screening, and Song plans to continue expanding the series while pursuing future editorial publication opportunities, including platforms such as NOWNESS, and additional international productions.

As her body of work continues to evolve, Song remains committed to developing original creative projects that unite visual storytelling, cultural exploration, experiential production, and emerging technologies. Through a practice rooted in concept development and multidisciplinary execution, she continues to create meaningful work that connects artists, brands, and communities across international creative landscapes.
