Noayama keeps the edges frayed on a scuffed Affine Records EP
The Vienna-based producer folds distorted beat work and leftfield rap into a compact five-track release.
Noayama’s Caravanist´s Shattered Dreams comes on like a small transmission from the rougher side of beat music. Across five tracks for Affine Records, the Vienna-based producer, media artist and filmmaker keeps the frame tight: drums scuffed at the edges, low-fidelity texture left in plain view, voices clipped or bent until they feel part of the machinery.
The EP sits somewhere between experimental rap and leftfield club pressure without trying to clean up the join. Distortion does a lot of the emotional work here, not as surface noise but as a way of blurring momentum and mood. It gives the record its slightly unstable feel, built from dirty beat structures and warped fragments rather than polished hooks.
Deem Spencer, from Queens, New York, and Washington, D.C.’s NAPPYNAPPA bring different shades to that world, appearing across “Don’t Had To Know” and “BBQ RAVE” as the project leans further into introspection and damaged speech rhythm. It is compact, but not slight: the best moments leave space for the production’s grime to breathe.
