Dive into the vibrant soundscape of Roman Angelos with the release of “Tropical Nites: Ursula 1000 Remix,” the inaugural single from his latest EP, *Tropical Nites: Remixes and Lost Tracks*. This project showcases an impressive ensemble, featuring the talents of composer Rich Bennett on guitar, Brittany Anjou on vibraphone, Ben Zwerin on bass, Spencer Cohen on drums, Dennis Boolyoins on percussion, Rose Rutledge on flute, Kai Sandoval on trumpet, Nadav Nirenberg on trombone, and Deidre Rodman-Struck on piano.
The upcoming EP also boasts remixes by notable artists including Ursula 1000, Blake Madden of Hotels, and producer Scott Solter. Collaborators on the rarities tracks include the esteemed Frank LoCrasto (known for his work with Cass McCombs, Fruit Bats, and Okkervil River) and Brazilian vocalist Mari Rosa (of Limoncello).
Ursula 1000’s remix of “Tropical Nites” perfectly captures the essence of summer escapism. It opens with soothing bird calls and ambient tropical sounds, creating a serene atmosphere before seamlessly transitioning into a lively lounge/bossa house rhythm, enhanced by enchanting female vocal samples and the melodic shimmer of steel drums. This remix strikes a harmonious balance between uplifting energy and soothing vibes, making it ideal for both dance floors and elegant cocktail gatherings.
Rich Bennett, the mastermind behind Roman Angelos, shares, “I’ve admired Ursula 1000’s work since the early 2000s. After completing the *Tropical Nites* LP, he was my top choice for a remix. I knew he could translate the essence of our music into a fresh sound that resonates with a broader audience. The moment I heard the birds and tropical ambiance in the remix, I knew we had something special.”
“Tropical Nites: Ursula 1000 Remix” will be available in a limited run of just five lathe-cut vinyl records at live Roman Angelos performances this fall. Each record features a stunning sleeve designed by UK artist MJ Langthorne, making it a coveted addition to any vinyl collection.
Roman Angelos, the creative persona of Brooklyn-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Rich Bennett, is a tribute to his fascination with 60s and 70s library recordings, muzak, and exotica. With its exotic, moody, and wistful sound, this project embodies a contemporary twist on classic septet music, infused with modern ambient influences.
