^L_’s “Music for Doomers”: A bold exploration of nihilistic soundscapes

Brazilian artist ^L_ has delivered an intriguing new release with his EP “Music for Doomers“, released on the Italian post-industrial heavy electronics label Brutal Forms. This meticulously constructed four-track EP is a punch in the stomach, inspired by a nihilistic generation that often expresses downer feelings, viewing life as a dark downward spiral that only gets worse.

The EP opens with “BDSM“, an incisive fetish-pounding gabber track that would fit perfectly on Berghain’s main dancefloor. The track’s undeniable energy, with its frenetic pace, immediately puts the listener on high alert. The sharp sounds and relentless beats are a clear nod to the fetish world, creating an atmosphere as intense as it is captivating.

The second track, “Sad People Hunting Happy People“, maintains the fast pace with its drilling beats, razor-sharp metal timbres, and long reverbing dark ambient textures. This track depicts a scene of revenge, critiquing the toxicity of forced positivity pervasive in contemporary society. The blend of industrial sounds and dark ambient settings crafts a haunting and immersive sonic landscape.

Doomer Music“, the third track, has a futuristic drive with its cutting-edge synth work, spicy acid 303 lines, and hard techno beats. This track transports the listener to a dystopian cyberpunk world, a place that could exist in any doomer’s mind. The sophisticated production ensures each sonic element contributes to a complex and layered auditory universe.

The EP concludes with “Satan + Jesus + Judas“, a track addressing religious themes often explored by the artist. This piece brings together seemingly opposing concepts in an elaborate percussive tune that traverses drill and bass, nervy IDM breakbeats, and industrial realms. ^L_‘s eclectic and experimental approach finds its peak expression here, offering a powerful and provocative end to an already intense EP.

Music for Doomers” is a work that leaves no one indifferent, a bold statement that explores the depths of desolation and rebellion through an innovative and challenging sound. ^L_ proves to be an artist capable of conveying strong emotions and challenging musical conventions, establishing himself as a unique presence in the contemporary post-industrial scene.
