ax1om is an exciting techno artist who is releasing his first solo EP, “In the Moment”. The release features two peak time tracks with gripping energy. It’s out now on Clif Jack’s record label MJA The Vision, and has already gained support from Adam Beyer. We invited ax1om for this interview to find out more…
How did you first discover electronic music, and what made you decide to become a DJ/producer?
ax1om: “I stumbled into electronic music unexpectedly. I’d always been deep into rock, playing in several bands, and I wasn’t a fan of electronic music at first. But a couple of friends helped me connect the dots between the two worlds, and that opened the door to music production and the vast sonic possibilities electronic music offers.”
Who are some of your biggest influences, and what makes them so inspiring?
ax1om: “My first major influences in electronic music were The Bloody Beetroots, deadmau5, and Skrillex. To me, they sounded like amplified versions of rock, raw energy reimagined.”
At what point in your career did you decide to start making your own music?
ax1om: “I’ve been producing music since I was 15. It eventually became my full-time path. Over the years I’ve worked with many artists, but I always kept creating for myself in the background. After years of exploration and trial, I finally found a way to express my vision—through techno.”
Can you talk through the concept of the tracks on your new EP “In the Moment”?
ax1om: “Presence. That’s it. Through every high and every fall—just being in it.”
How do you approach making a new track, and what studio equipment is essential to your sound?
ax1om: “The process is different every time. Sometimes I start with a clear idea, other times it begins from pure experimentation. My essentials are a MacBook Pro, Moog SubPhatty, and Serum by Xfer Records. They never let me down.”
Your new “In the Moment” EP is out on Clif Jack’s label MJA the Vision. How did you first connect with the label, and is this your first solo release?
ax1om: “met Clif Jack through a collaborator and friend, Jeff Eveline—a talented producer and DJ. That led to my first release on the “Hiss of Sound VA1” compilation, and now here we are with my first solo EP featuring two tracks. Things unfold!”
In your opinion, what sets DJs apart from bands or other performing artists?
ax1om: “Some DJs can guide their audience into a trance-like state that I’ve never experienced with bands or other performers. That moment when an hour feels like a minute—when you’re both a wave and the ocean.”
What are some of your passions outside of music?
ax1om: “I enjoy drawing and experimenting with graphic art in general. Still evolving though.”
Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. What else is coming up in your schedule, and is there anything you want to add?
ax1om: “More music. Deeper vision. ax1om is just starting to breathe.”
