Alan Fitzpatrick‘s record label, We Are The Brave, starts 2025 with a raw and driving techno EP from Ilona Maras.
Ilona Maras is a Montenegrin artist based in Switzerland, and she made waves in 2024 with releases on the likes of Frankyeffe’s Riot Recordings, adding to a catalogue that already included music on the likes of Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth on Acid.
The release has peak time grooves with gritty percussion and in-your-face synths creating exhilarating moments on the dance floor. This is backed up with the release already gaining support by DJs ranging from Marco Faraone to Monika Kruse.
Her techno sound is a bold tapestry of influences including breakbeat, house, and acid techno, which helps her create a unique and captivating sonic identity. Her productions also channel her DJ skills, which have seen her grace iconic stages across the globe, from Zurich’s Street Parade Festival and ADE to legendary clubs like Culture Box (Copenhagen), Backyard Sessions Festival (Malmö), Up2Us (Ibiza), and Hive (Switzerland), where she holds a celebrated residency.
The EP kicks off with “No Sleep Baby,” a driving and aggressive peak time anthem that balances relentless power with uplifting melodies in the breakdown. It’s the ultimate late-night weapon for DJs looking to keep the energy levels soaring.
Next up with pumping rhythms, acid-infused touches, and a commanding vocal hook, “Poisoned Wine” is an intoxicating track that contrasts an intensely dark groove with a euphoric breakdown. It’s a floor-filling production with mainstage appeal.
The deep, raw, and hypnotic, “New York Undercover” is built around a big breakdown that explodes into a powerful drop, and it’s perfect for those deeper, moodier moments on the dance floor.
Rounding off the EP is the title track, “This is Your Diss,” is an energetic, trippy ride featuring a familiar vocal sample that’s seamlessly woven into the production. Hypnotic and catchy, there is a Robert Hood/Floorplan-esque vibe to this soulful slice of peak time techno.
