Electrifying new Vienna-based glitch pop artist KÄSSY questions reality on her fourth single, ‘Wemightchange’, set for release on Friday 13th September via her own label imprint KÄSSY.

‘Wemightchange’ dances along the blurred line between reality and illusion, shaped by our constant digital input. Through auto tuned vocals, KÄSSY poses the question: ‘What’s made up, and what actually exists?’ Leaning gently into the region of hyperpop, her vocals sit on a loose drum break, coupled with epic gliding synths, whirring synth bleeps and heavily modulated background vocals. An incredible music video, directed by Rosa Knecht, accompanies the track (watch here).

Distinguishing reality from made-up scenarios can be challenging when one starts feeding oneself delusions filtered through a rose-coloured lens,” says KÄSSY on the themes found on ‘Wemightchange’. “One might lose track of one’s own train of thought. One might even lose oneself completely in this overstimulating realm of constant input that we have created for ourselves. What’s made up and what exists? Where does reality end and where does delusion start?

Musically, KÄSSY’s work defies easy categorisation but could be described as “glitch pop,” a fusion of influences somewhere between Nirvana and renowned hyperpop producer and Charli XCX collaborator, A.G. Cook. So far, KÄSSY – real name Katrin Paucz – has released three singles, the noisy and experimental ‘Skirt On Pants’, the softer, introspective ‘I Feel So Heavy’ and the more guitar-heavy pop-rock track ‘For Two’, a song about oversharing, overcompensating and false expectations.

A self-taught, multi-talented and seasoned Austrian musician, Paucz started her music career straight after school, becoming the live touring guitarist for the band Oehl. In 2020, she went on to form Sharktank with rapper Mile, releasing two albums and an EP, before joining the rock group Bilderbuch. In March this year, Paucz embarked on her solo KÄSSY moniker, supporting Bilderbuch on their European tour across Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, and the UK. On 20th September, KÄSSY will play at Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival. She’s also one of the contenders for the festival’s prestigious Anchor Award, the winner of which will be revealed on the 21st.

‘Wemightchange’, just the fourth single to come from this exciting emerging artist, encaptures her glitch pop style perfectly. Combining her already burgeoning music industry knowledge with a strong musical voice, KÄSSY’s journey is just beginning.
