Boom Merchant is back on Red Occultus with new techno EP, ‘Bad Trip’

Boom Merchant is back on Red Occultus with another slamming techno EP.

Out now, Bad Trip features three original tracks by Boom Merchant, each of which has standout qualities.

What makes Boom Merchant’s music so special is his ability to fuse techno drums with samples from other genres. He is also a master of low-end frequencies, and his tracks often have intense basslines.

Boom Merchant spent many years living in Glasgow (Scotland), where he was able to perfect his DJ skills through a residency at the Surge nightclub. He has since relocated to Mexico, where he has been making waves within the local scene, but he also gets bookings in other parts of the world.

His productions reflect a deep understanding of the dance floor, and this is prevalent in the title track of his new EP.

“Bad Trip” is a great example of how Boom Merchant’s music manipulates a dance floor, as its emotive vocals keep the audience’s attention on tenterhooks, while the ominous backing track plays with their emotions.

“Solo” has hammering drums and dramatic synth bursts that add juddering movement to the titanic bassline that swells as the track progresses.

“Top Boy” is a track that has old-school techno funk, and hardgroove percussion building towards a soaring breakdown marked by a euphoric melody.
