Behind the Beats: An Exclusive Interview with Pleasureseeker

Today we have a special treat for you – an interview with the one and only Pleasureseeker. This talented music producer and DJ has been making waves in the industry.

-What’s the story behind your journey into the world of music and DJing?
I was introduced to house music in 2001 and started buying deep house and acid house records from San Francisco. By 2004, I had a weekly residency at a club in Dallas and was regularly promoting house music parties. In 2009, I partnered with Tim Bernhardt (Satin Jackets) from Germany, and we created our own label, Sublet Recordings. After three years and several albums, we parted ways, and he purchased the Satin Jackets name, which he uses today. I took a break for a few years and began producing again in 2018 on my own under the Pleasureseeker and Niteworx monikers.

-With which labels and artists have you worked on?
Om Records, Robsoul, Naked Music, NRG

-Any new releases?

Several new releases including Future House, Deep House, and even a few Tech House bangers. There are several tracks on Alveda Music, as well as a few on another label I work with in London, Eastpole Records and WeirdInc.

-In the studio, what’s your set-up?
I use Native Instruments, Ableton Live, FL Studio, and Logic Pro. For production gear, I use Maschine, Novation, Roland, and Arturia. I process my work on Mac M1 and M2 using Waves Plugins for mastering. Additionally, I use Pioneer DJ Gear such as XDJ, turntables, and CDJs.

-What’s the deal with DJing? What makes it stand out from other performing arts?
I think DJing takes a lot of creativity these days if you want to stand apart. Technology has allowed anyone to DJ now, so skills are really a thing of the past. You have to be creative and really make use of every bit of music.

-How has your musical taste evolved over the years?
I used to like harder house, techno, trance, and stuff like that. Nowadays, I’m very into deep house, future house, and a little tech house.

-What is your favorite djing experience?
I enjoy DJing in a small room with maybe 50 people. It’s intimate, and everyone can feel each other’s vibe.

-What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a chef and I own a restaurant, so that keeps me pretty busy for 3-4 days a week. The other 3 days, I’m in the studio making tracks and shooting videos.

-What advice would you give to another DJ and music producer starting out in
their career?

If you don’t have enough passion to pursue the music business for years on end with no money or recognition, then you should probably choose something else. This pursuit requires an undying passion for the sound you can create and share with others.
