For Alden Song, the LA-based DJ and producer, this summer season has been marked by an expanse of creative energy, inspiration, and a clear focus on the road ahead. Having been steadily carving out a space of his own, bringing groove-driven production and a strong collaborative spirit to his work, he continues to explore the depths of his creativity, aiming to evolve and develop in his approach.
Now, in this interview, we catch up with him to talk summer routines, creative shifts, and what’s coming up next.
Hi Alden! How are you?
Hey guys! I’m doing well, thanks for having me.
What does this summer look like for you so far — are you treating it as a creative season, or taking the chance to slow down and recharge?
I think I feel most creative during the summer, and this year is no exception. This time of year is always perfect for releasing House music. And because of the weather, I love being out and going to cool DJ events! It’s a very inspiring time of year.
Have there been any shows, events, or festivals you’ve attended this summer that really inspired you — or any you’re looking forward to?
There have been a lot! The big festival I went to this year was Coachella, and it was amazing. A lot of my favorite DJs played, and it was great. I also got to see Keinemusik in NYC, and that had to be my favorite concert this year. I didn’t expect to like them that much, but it was life-changing!
Does the season influence your creative process in any way, either in the kind of music you’re drawn to making or your approach in the studio?
It does! During the summer, there are always cool events and a lot of DJs are playing. Summer allows me to make music outside of the studio and in cool, inspiring places. I also get inspired just by being out!
You dropped your collaboration with Iti, ‘Tekera,’ earlier this summer. Can fans expect more collabs in the near future?
They definitely can. My next song is with the very talented 20XII and is releasing this month! It’s a clubby House track with sick vocals that I’m excited to be releasing. And definitely more collaborations coming soon!
Outside of music, have there been any personal goals or experiences you’ve been exploring this season?
I recently moved from NYC to LA, and I’ve been working on my networking skills. Moving to a new place is hard, but it teaches you to get out of your comfort zone. I’m also trying to balance work and fun, and sometimes the line is blurred when you’re in the House music world, haha!
Is there a particular track that defines summer for you — either your own or someone else’s — that always gets you in the vibe?
The song ‘Back It Up’ by Josh Baker has been on repeat lately. I feel like this song has such summer vibes, and I love it.
Having lived in both NYC and now LA, how would you compare the energy between the two cities, especially in summer? Do you have favourite for this time of year?
It’s definitely different. I feel like in NYC, summer is a bigger deal since it only comes around a quarter of the year. In LA, it’s warm all the time, so stuff happens year-round, but the summer vibes still come around this time of year.
As you look ahead, how do you feel this summer is shaping the direction of the rest of your year, both creatively and professionally?
This summer, I’ve been releasing a lot of music I had in the vault. So, it marks the start of a new era of music for me. I’m super excited for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on as we go into the colder months.
And finally, what’s next on your radar?
I have big plans for the next couple of months! New music coming out this month, new shows I can’t wait to announce, and a big trip to Amsterdam for ADE! Super excited for the future.
