“El Halcon Lucido y El Dragon Negro” is the name of the new album by Betelgeize, which tells the story of a mystical tribe and a dragon who captures one of their members.
It’s an organic house album, which comes via Betelgeize’s record label It’s Good To Be A Tree, but he has also released on other respected record labels including Exotic Refreshment LTD, Serafin Audio Imprint and Leveldva.
The seven-track release embraces Afro rhythms and utilises vocals from African singer IKVA, who features on three of the tracks. There is also a collaboration with fellow organic house producer Valique.
First of the tracks is “Capítulo I – Vida Pacifica (Feat. IKVA)” which is an Afro house cut with powerful percussion and African vocals. It’s got synth pulses and harmonising vocals that give it an uplifting mood and sense of community.
That sense of community introduces the mystical tribe that are integral to the album’s concept, and the eerie vibe of the second track “Capítulo II – Parábola Del Chamán” introduces the dragon who interferes with their lives.
“Capítulo III – El Razllob” is the dramatic third track that represents the dragon stealing a tribe member called The Luminous Falcon, then the remaining tracks document his escape and safe return home.
It’s a jazz-filled album where the story is for the listener to make their own interpretation of how each part of the tale links to each of the tracks. Although, if you didn’t know there was a story, then it still works as an engaging body of music where many of the tracks are very DJ friendly.
