A two-track Resilient Recordings EP of dark, percussive hard techno with acid-edged movement.

909 RIOT & Carl Shorts keep Mad WOW lean and heavy

909 RIOT & Carl Shorts don’t overcomplicate the brief on Mad WOW E.P. Their first link-up arrives on Resilient Recordings with two tracks built for pressure, leaning into an older hard techno language: fast, dark, percussive and direct, without centring everything around oversized drop mechanics.

The title cut works through stripped drums and a marching push, leaving most of the movement to the groove rather than any big melodic turn. It’s functional in the best sense, the kind of track that keeps the room locked without needing to decorate the edges. Suit Yourself takes a more acidic route, folding in darker, writhing lines and a less predictable swing while keeping the weight up front.

Across the EP there’s a clear preference for impact over polish: heavy percussion, tight arrangements and enough instability in the rhythm to stop it from feeling flat. For DJs looking for hard techno that stays raw and club-minded, Mad WOW E.P. sits in that useful space between peak-time force and no-frills underground drive.
